Introduction: The Power of Thought

Thirty years ago, Edwin C. Barnes discovered how true it is that “a man truly becomes what he thinks about.” However, this realization did not come to him all at once. He gradually discovered it, starting with his intense desire to become a business associate of the famous Thomas Edison.

Barnes' desire had a defining characteristic – it was clear and specific. He didn’t just want to work for Edison; he wanted to partner with him. When this desire first took root in his mind, he was not in a position to act on it. He faced two major obstacles. First, he had no acquaintance with Mr. Edison. Second, he didn’t even have the train fare to travel to Edison’s office in New Jersey.

These challenges would have discouraged most people from pursuing such a dream. But Barnes was different
