The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that the pain of death feels so severe to the dying person as if the body is being struck with three hundred swords all at once, or even more. In another narration, it is stated that the pain felt at the time of death is greater than that of being struck by a thousand daggers. Imam Awzai (may Allah have mercy on him) said that he learned that the pain of death will be felt until the Day of Resurrection. Hazrat Saddad ibn Aws (may Allah have mercy on him) said that death is more painful than all the sufferings of this world and the Hereafter. The pain felt when a living body is cut with a saw is less than that experienced in death. The discomfort of being cut with scissors is also less. It is harder than being boiled alive in hot water in a pot. If the deceased could rise from the grave and describe the pain of death, then no one would remain in the comfort and luxury of this world.
