Revival of Sunnah and Abandonment of Bid'ah
Preface of the book "Ehiyawus Sunan":
Praise be to Allah and blessings and peace be upon His Great Messenger. This book aims to introduce the Sunnah, its importance, types, sources, the stages of acting contrary to the Sunnah, the identification of innovations (bid’ah), their types, reasons for deviating from the Sunnah, and guidance on practices such as ablution, prayer, remembrance (dhikr), funeral rites, and even issues like strikes and labor disputes, all while attempting to convey the actions and abstentions of the Messenger of Allah in every aspect of Muslim life. In discussing the Sunnah, it has been necessary to address the countless prevalent religious beliefs, practices, customs, and rituals that are not in line with the Sunnah.
When I first published this book in 2002, I thought that the scholars and religious people of society might not accept it and that it would be difficult for them to abandon long-standing and advertised practices solely based on the emotional drive to convey the Sunnah of the Prophet. However, the experiences of the past five years have changed that perception. The overwhelming response from readers to this substantial and challenging book has made it clear that countless devout individuals in society are eager to learn the true teachings of Islam through the Quran and Hadith and to change and guide their lives accordingly. There are indeed many people in society who are willing to relinquish deeply ingrained customs, habits, or actions without hesitation in order to follow the Sunnah.
They do not want to hear about the endless debates on what is permissible and what is not, the confusion of reasoning, or countless possibilities. They do not want to engage in debates about what countless elders in later generations have done. They seek to know the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and his great companions. They want to learn how the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) performed the actions of religion, and to the best of their ability, they want to imitate him precisely. They do not wish to rely on fabricated, baseless, or invented statements, stories, or weak and unreliable Hadiths. They seek to understand the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) in light of authentic and acceptable Hadiths. However, it is not possible for them to collect accurate information from the vast treasure of the Qur'an and Hadith. When someone gathers and presents this information to them, they feel delighted and accept it graciously. One of our inspirations for naming, publishing, and promoting this book was Pir Abul Ansar Muhammad Abdul Kahar Siddiqui (may Allah be pleased with him) of Furfurah. He loved the Sunnah of the Prophet above everything in life and inspired us to love and embrace the Sunnah in the same way. Responding to the call of his great Lord, he left us last year. I pray in the court of Almighty Allah that He accepts his tireless efforts in reviving and establishing the Sunnah of the Prophet, grants him the best reward, and grants all of us, including his children, the ability to remain steadfast on the Sunnah. And may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and companions. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Abdullah Jahangir
