The famous Muslim philosopher Hujjat al-Islam Imam Ghazali (R.A.), in short, Imam Ghazali, was a Sufi ascetic and one of the leading educators in the Muslim world, who occupies a special place in the history of Islam by spreading his philosophy and ideas among the Muslims of the world. It is believed that his name Ghazali came from his family business related to yarn, since the word 'Ghazal' means yarn. Imam Ghazali was born in 1058 AD (450 Hijri) in Tus city under Khorasan province of Iran and his childhood and education were spent in this Tus city. He was born in the golden age of Islam, when Muslims were far ahead in education, science, etc. At the same time, Western and Greek philosophies also flourished. Imam Ghazali was initiated in all these subjects and especially acquired deep knowledge on various religious subjects from Imam al-Haramayn al-Juwayni, a famous theologian of that era. He was highly skilled in Muslim philosophy, theology, jurisprudence, etc. He taught at Nizamiyya Madrasa, the best educational institution in Baghdad, the holy place of knowledge and science. He also gained a seat in the court of the then king. However, due to a strong attraction towards Sufism and spiritual knowledge, he traveled to different countries to acquire knowledge and gained immense knowledge about various subjects. Imam Ghazali (R.A.) has spread all this knowledge he acquired to the Muslim world through writing books. In the books of Hujjat al-Islam Imam Ghazali (R.A.), he has discussed Sufism, Islamic philosophy and theology etc., and the number of books he has written is more than four hundred. Among the books of Hujjat al-Islam Imam Ghazali (R.A.), 'Asmaul Husna', 'Mishkatul Anwar', 'Fatawa', 'Miyar al-Ilm', 'Haqiqatur Ruh', 'Daqaiqul Akhbar' etc. are notable. He died in 1111 AD (505 Hijri) in his birthplace Tus city. He is a forever memorable man in the history of Islam.
