Imam Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari (RA) The lexical meaning of the word Muhaddith is a hadith narrator. It is said that among all Muhaddiths, Muhammad bin Ismail bin Ibrahim bin Mughirah bin Bardizbah was the best. He was born in 194 Hijri on the 13th of Shawwal, Friday, in Bukhara, Khurasan. Imam Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari (RA) is remembered for his books. He is more commonly known as Imam Bukhari in the Muslim world. His father, Ismail ibn Ibrahim, was another well-known figure in the Muslim community, associated with the hadith scholar Allama Hammadi (RA) and Hazrat Abdullah ibn Mubarak (RA). He was also the owner of immense wealth. Therefore, although Imam Bukhari lost his father at a very young age, he did not face any dire situations. Another reason was his mother. His mother was a learned and pious woman. She provided her son with proper education. Thus, at the age of just six, Bukhari (RA) became a Hafiz of the Quran and then focused on learning hadith. At the age of sixteen, he undertook the pilgrimage and stayed in Mecca to gain knowledge of hadith from skilled scholars. After traveling to many regions including Iraq, Syria, Egypt, and Medina in search of hadith, he returned to Bukhara after sixteen years. As a person, he was generous. His memory was remarkable, allowing him to remember hadith after hearing them. It is said that he could recite six hundred thousand hadiths from memory, and even minute errors did not escape his notice. By the collection of books of Imam Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari (RA), we refer to Sahih Bukhari, which contains authentic hadiths compiled by Imam Bukhari (RA). The number of his compiled works exceeds twenty. In his old age, he was expelled from his homeland and moved to a place called Kharatang in Samarkand. In this region, he passed away on the 1st of Shawwal in 256 Hijri.
